Fly Fishing for Panfish, his third book in a series (Fly Fishing for Striped Bass and Fly Fishing for Smallmouth Bass) which provides truly useful and accurate information about how to fish and actually catch these critters.

There are many new revelations about why and when fish act as they do, and what you have to do to catch them under differing circumstances/5(2). Fooling a bluegill with fly tackle is as much fun as catching a giant bass because of the fight they give, and this is why this book is so good.

It breaks down the fishing element into steps that lead you to the big ones, and teaches you how to find the right places to fish for them. This is a Great Book!/5(38).

Also great reference for the experienced fly fisherman. A bit of everything - basic & advanced fly tying techniques, patterns, as well as fishing methodology, casting, rigging, knot tying, etc. All told in a matter-of-fact and conversational way, like you were sitting on 5/5(3).

Finally, I theorized that the darkened. For a fly fishing reel, if all you’re going to fish for is bluegill and other panfish, having a high-quality reel isn’t super important. Occasionally though, you’re going to hook into something with a little more fight, like a bass or pike.

When that happens, having a reel with a decent drag is important. After a lifetime of fly fishing for bluegill, I've also found that the slower you fish the fly, the more and larger fish you can expect. Bluegill and other sunfish often miss and quickly lose interest in fast-moving foods and flies.

Dry flies, Sponge Spiders, Sneaky Petes, mini jigs, San Juan Worms, eggs, nymphs, Author: Dave And Emily Whitlock. Well maybe that is a slight exaggeration, but that classic line from the Jaws movie made a valid point.

To catch a larger fish, you need to go large or go home. When targeting bigger panfish, I will often fish a fly size six or larger. Even though bluegills have small mouths, they are capable of getting some reasonably large items to fit in.

Skip Morris goes the extra mile in his new book, Fly Fishing Tips for Trout, Bass, and Panfish.
